    Investment finance games: simulating the 1997 asian crisis

    Economists have previously explained the 1997 East Asian crisis in a variety of ways. For our part, we condense these accounts and illustrate the crisis with an innovative technique. A game theoretic approach is applied in this study, with national government and financial institutions as players, using historical data for payoff computations. In the process, we model bounded rationality in the selection of players' tools among an array of variables. We follow the players' decisions through a six year period, 1995 to 2000, which enables us to track the variation in economic activity and motivation for the region. This game modeling, we believe, initiates a fresh method of analyzing and explaining how the crisis came to be, with respect to actual data and regional environment.
