i love this game: the metropolitan basketball association and its impact on the member local government units
(2001-03) Garcia, Joseph Arnie A.; Tenazas, Nicholas M.
Does the Metropolitan Basketball Association contribute to the economic well-being of the member local government units? If so, in what ways can the government help? MBA, being a private enterprise, is expected to yield satisfaction to the players, staff and fans. Little do people know that the sport that most Filipinos love also provides much needed help in the economic sector of the country. The findings of the paper are interesting. MBA is just a "signaling device" for the local government units' (LGUs) high levels of employment, tax and non-tax revenues. It does not really cause employment and tax revenues to significantly rise. But more importantly, it has great positive impact on the LGUs' non-tax revenues. The LGUs should continue promoting and supporting MBA since it is a great help to their financial resources, and it increases their capability to enhance social well-being.
