Effects of public spending on tertiary education on the level of college enrollees
    (2010-04-07) Dizon, Evangeline; Joson, Joyce
Upon completion of secondary education, a student is faced with a tough decision: Should he pursue higher education or not? This study aims to find out if increasing the government spending would increase the motivation to pursue higher education. The results showed a positive but insignificant result. This implies that though increasing public spending on tertiary education might promote it, the study cannot fully justify it. On the other hand, some of the other variables have high significant effects on the enrollment rate. This may imply that instead of focusing on education expenditure, using these other variables in promoting enrollment might give better results. Although the study focuses on data across countries, the results may still be applied in the Philippine context.
