Item Restricted The dynamics of demand and supply for caregivers and nursing assistants in the Philippines(2004-10) Gastalla, Ligaya L.; Mercado, Crystal A.; Alonzo, RupertoThis study probed into the demand and supply of caregiving industry in the Philippines. It identified the determinants of labor supply and factors affecting the demand. It also provided an economic perspective of engaging in caregiving by computing the internal rate of return (IRR) and net present value (NPV) of the investments spent in being a caregiver. Specifically, the study proved that as accorded by Todaro migration theory, caregivers migrate primarily because of higher earnings abroad. It also looked into the problems faced by the caregiver sector specifically in absorbing the booming supply of caregivers in the market. The nature of-people engaging in caregiving had been examined. The study proposes for a government intervention in the form of policy proposals so as to address the problems arising from the inability of the market to employ and deploy the supply of caregivers.
