Item Restricted Total capital stock estimation and the contribution of the capital structure to total factor productivity(2003-04) Laurel, Benedict Eloha R.; Rances, Katherine May N.This study focuses on total capital stock estimation and the contribution of the capital structure of the Philippine economy to total factor productivity (TFP). The framework employed by Aurora Sanchez two decades ago, is the same framework utilized in the first part of this study in order to come up with capital stock estimates for the period 1981 to 2000. The computed estimates were then used in the second part of this study for the evaluation of the contribution of the capital structure to total factor productivity. The proponents of this study believe in the indispensable role of capital to the growth and development of the economy; however; studies, including this one, have shown the failure of our country, over the years, to foster enhanced productivity within the economy. Some of the determinants of the resulting impact of capital to TFP are then presented in this paper in order to suggest improvements in the current policies being implemented.
