Item Restricted Technological impact of the Maisagana program(1986-01) Africa, Ma. Victoria M.; Santos, Geraldine C.; Herrin, AlejandroThe Maisagana Program was essentially envisioned as a technology generation and application program towards increased corn productivity. After two years of initial implementation, meaningful analysis can already be made about the program. The Maisagana program is actually a package of technology comprised of high yielding varieties, use of fertilizers and chemicals and improved methods of corn cultivation including various support services which is available to any interested party (after compliance with standard operating procedures). Over the Maisagana years of 1982-1984, significant uptrends in yield, ROI, revenue, nominal profits and real profits in white and yellow corn production were observed. Such uptrends, based on our computations and analysis, actually constitute the technological impact of the Maisagana program. Though the changes in nominal profits and real profits for white corn production, on the other hand, were entirely due to yield. Such findings reinforce our conclusion that indeed, the program exerted a technological impact to the industry especially to yellow corn production which is its main concern. To reiterate, the program exerted a significant technological impact to the corn industry which will be understood more clearly as the reader goes through the entirety of this paper.
