Government housing programs can they stimulate regional development?
(2012-10) Sanchez, Ena Dessarie O.; Taguinod, Krizelle Anne B.; Desierto, Desiree A.
The government allocated 7 billion pesos for the housing programs for the year 2012 with a goal to house the poor and provide them opportunities to improve their lives. This is a huge amount for projects that do not bear significant improvements. Using OLS regressions and fixed effects regressions, the authors found that housing programs are inversely related to regional development. It seems that the projects are not really reaching the target market because of the inefficiencies in the design and structure of the housing programs. The government instead should restructure the projects and create more means to reach the destitute.
