Item Restricted Factors associated with electoral success(2007-03-30) Arisgado, Mark Joseph Z.; Lorca, Paula Krisna B.This study is about the rationality of Filipino voters, as reflected in the probability of an incumbent district representative getting re-elected. The sample used in the analysis covers forty-six lone and selected districts in the Philippines in 2001. Measures of district-level inflation and unemployment are employed as well as membership in a political family in the regression. Applying logit analysis, the authors show that neither inflation nor unemployment is significant in determining the probability of winning. What seems to matter most for the electoral success of the incumbents is membership in a political family.
