Item Restricted Housing as a building block of welfare: an impact assessment of gawad kalinga in Laura(2008-03) Baluyot, Brylle Lewylle S.; Panganiban, Marian Angelica K.This paper evaluates the overall impact of Gawad Kalinga, a private sector development initiative, on subjective welfare using data collected through a census of 51 of households in the Laura community, a Gawad Kalinga urban village located in Quezon City. It uses the random effects probit estimation and the random effects generalized least squares regression to investigate changes in welfare assessment that take place through Gawad Kalinga. We provide empirical evidence that overall, the Gawad Kalinga housing program in the Laura community substantially contributed to improvements in the beneficiaries' subjective welfare and these improvements are best channeled through Gawad Kalinga's provision of infrastructure services.
