Item Restricted Bank branching and commercial banking concentration: a study through market shares(1996-04) Cataylo, Neville C.; Santos, Emmanuel Jesus P.; Natividad-Carlos, Fidelina B.Usual indicators of banking concentration are technically misleading for they are usually highly interdependent of each other and may provide flawed analysis when not corrected. The problem is exemplified in the difficulty of measuring bank concentration using developed theoretical frameworks and Philippine banking data. This paper tries to include another banking consideration - branch banking -- in the skeletal framework to test its contribution to the concentration phenomenon that is yet to be addressed through the promotion of financial liberalization. A rudiment construction of simplified variables is tested along with the secondary consideration - branches - which shows that a complete identifiable influence of the latter is not attainable.
