Item Unknown The impacts of remittances on the health care utilization of Filipino households(2009-10) Bernabe, Alleneth M.; De Castro, Karla Jane B.This paper looks into the effects of international remittances on the health care utilization of households in the Philippines. The results indicate that remittances have made a statistically significant impact on health care utilization while controlling for other factors such as income, health insurance coverage, education, and the demographic characteristics of households. The positive relationship suggests that one of the possible targets of remittances is to finance the health care utilization of migrant Filipino families. Moreover, examining the substitutability of remittances over health insurance, the results indicate a statistically significant positive relationship between remittances and health care utilization for households without health insurance coverage.
