Item Restricted Does masculinity affect preference for coffee? a study on the effects of 2D:4D ratios and expectations on taste preference(2012-10-19) Ahyong, Joshua Nathaniel Y.; Gavieta, Kevin Anthony A.; Desierto, Desiree A.Sensory perception is the rendering of stimuli as it is taken in by the sensory receptors sifting through a vast network of nerves until it reaches the faculty of the mind for processing. In this paper, it examines the gustatory system of taste through the sampling of two kinds of coffee, the traditional brewed coffee and the more modem instant coffee. This paper attempts to uncover how the gustatory system selects its preference for coffee with the dissolution of psychological and biological variables. Information bias, may it be through branding or conveyance, is the psychological variable to be meddled with in this study whereas the influence of the amount of prenatal androgen exposure, using digit ratio as the putative measure, is the biological variable to be looked into. An experiment was conducted in lieu of this study with a sample set of 150 undergraduate students from the School of the Economics of the University of the Philippines. Contrary to assumption, branding and expectations had no significant effect on the preference of the students for coffee. The findings on the digit ratio, on the other hand, are not clear-cut as desired. For both male and female, the left and right ratio did show significant results on their preference for coffee, but more so with the males. The females had other factors figuring in for their coffee preference aside from the biological digit ratio, and those were the culturally-related factors (i.e. availability at home, how long they have been drinking coffee, socio-economic background, etc.). In general, however, the results tell us that both the masculine male and female prefer brewed coffee, but females prefer it more for its taste while males prefer it in reinforcing a virile image.Item Restricted Value added by the coffee industry to labor and capital in the Southern Tagalog region(1981-10-30) Colmenar, Oliver BlancaflorItem Restricted A study of coffee financing practices of selected communites in Cavite: the adequacy of financing institutions(1980-01) Ramos, Carla A.; Suarez, Val B.Item Restricted Production and marketing of coffee in Silang, Cavite, 1981(1982-01) Lozano, Helen; Pinera, Benilda; Pernia, Ernesto
