Item Restricted Philippines’ transition to a cashless society and its effects on key macroeconomic indicators(2017-12-18) Ferrer, Marie Pauline S. ; Tapucar, Jane Chloe C. ; Mendoza, Maria Nimfa F.With the emergence of a new financial trend which is e-money, it is necessary to test for its effects on macroeconomic indicators to propose supplemental principles to the current monetary policy in the Philippines which is inflation targeting. This paper examines the effects of the components of monetary aggregates and e-money on key macroeconomic indicators, specifically real GDP, nominal GDP, and inflation. This study uses data obtained from Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) from 2003 to 2016. OLS examines the long-run effects while ECM and ARDL techniques are applied to examine the short-run effects of selected variables on key macroeconomic indicators. OLS results show that without e- money, transfers and securities other than shares consistently affect macroeconomic indicators. With the introduction e-money, all dependent variables are significantly affected. ECM results show that only savings deposits significantly affect real and nominal GDP in 2003 to 2009. ARDL result shows that time deposits significantly affect inflation for time period 2003 to 2009. Furthermore, the findings imply that when e-money is introduced as an independent variable, it significantly affects the key macroeconomic indicators in the long run only. Short run effects of e-money are not yet captured in this study due to the limited data regarding e-money.Item Restricted The quantity theory of money: it's application in the Philippine setting(1992-01) Defensor, Ma.
