Economic, sociological and demographic variables play a significant role in determining the capacity of the farmer-borrower to pay. Specifically, it was revealed that the repayment rate is sensitive to the following factors, namely, farm size, years of schooling, net farm income and the value of collateral. The lower the values for these variables, the less capable will be the farmer-borrower to pay his/her loan. it is certainly possible to minimize the problem of loan arrearages. Certain measures may be undertaken at the institutional as well as in the farmer-borrower level to increase the collection ratio and to lower loans in arrears.
