Four direct channels of impact are examined. These are: (1) growth of Philippine exports to China,. (2) increased competition from China in the domestic market, (3) increased competition from China for Philippine exports to third markets, and (4) effects on foreign direct investment. The findings show an increase in Philippine exports to China, particularly industrial manufactures. Imports from China increased as well but to a lesser extent. In addition, there is evidence supporting the claim of increased competition in third markets, specifically in US. Lastly, FDI inflows to the Philippines do not seem to have been affected.enInternational tradeTradeExportForeign investmentIndustrial industryManufacturing industryTrade marketChina's emergence: threat or opportunity for the Philippines?Thesis
