Abstract
Our study deals with the determinants of crime rate in the Philippines. We hypothesize that criminality is associated with such factors as congestion, poverty, income level and inequality, and schooling. We apply the ordinary least squares regression method to pooled cross-section and time-series data gleaned from the Philippine Statistical Yearbook published by the National Statistical Coordination Board. The results of our analysis reveal that crime rate is significantly influenced by congestion, unemployment, and income inequality. We conclude with
implications for policy and further research.
