Abstract
This paper examines the factors associated with the views of the youth on the Reproductive Health (RH) Bill (or House Bill 5043), in particular the provision on reproductive health education in schools and its supposed promiscuity effect on sexuality behavior. Using cross-tabulations of the data gathered through a self-administered questionnaire survey, the paper compares the views of adolescents of different backgrounds and characteristics. Analysis of the data shows that the youth generally have favorable views on the RH bill and on its sex education provision, regardless of gender, religion or household income. It also shows that the few who have an unfavorable opinion are practicing Catholics who have never engaged in sexual intercourse. In addition, very few believe that sex education leads to promiscuity and even these few support the bill and such specific provision. Furthermore, the paper finds that population policy which helps reduce proverty is generally favored by the survey respondents. Lastly, the researchers recommend that the study be replicated to cover other youth of different backgrounds and institutional settings.
