This paper is a compendium of various theoretical explanations surroundi.ng the origins of the financial and economic crisis as well as the social impacts that followed . The paper looks into empirical evidences to support the theories about the origins to establish a general framework that applies to the Philippine context. Various social indicators are analyzed through the use of new frameworks of investigation to give an enhanced examination of the adverse, or otherwise, effects of the crisis.
