Abstract
We aim to identify the different characteristics that influence credit utilization (for
production or consumption) of a farmer. We estimate the effect of different characteristics on
loan allocation using the logistic model for 2015 Smallholder Farmers and Fisher folk Indebtedness Survey (SFFIS). We found that loan characteristics, specifically interest rate and amount, are the most significant characteristics that influence credit allocation and are negatively correlated with credit allocation--decreasing the likelihood of loan allocation to consumption by approximately seven percent in both cases. Consequently, we see that maturity is significant and positively correlated to credit allocation, with a one percent increase of likelihood for a farmer to allocate loan to consumption.
