A number of researchers claim that the use of the internet can significantly decrease inequality while others claim that inequality in internet access causes polarization of economic and/or other opportunities. The main objective of this research is to determine whether the presence of internet has equalizing effects or polarizing effects on the socioeconomic conditions of individuals in the Philippine setting. We tested the basic condition for equalization and the main mechanism of polarization, that all individuals have access to internet technology. The results of the regional regression analysis show evidence for the latter.
