This paper aims to explain the various socio-economic factors that affect student's academic performance in the Philippines. Given the poverty incidence, average per capita income, average family expenditure on education and average government spending per pupil, we will examine how each of these variables greatly affects the average NEAT scores of students. The data gathered was on the provincial level. Regression analysis will be used to analyze the results. To further provide a more in-depth and comprehensive view of the impacts of socio-economic variables on students' performance in every subject, the average NEAT scores in each subject (English, Science, Math, Filipino and HEKASI) were regressed on .the same independent variables. Our study showed that average per capita income negatively affects the average NEAT scores of students in Science and Math. As the average per capita income of a province increases, the lower the students get in their NEAT scores. One plausible explanation to this is that in a more affluent province, students are presented with more distractions like the different leisure and recreation areas where they can spend time in instead of going to school or studying. In addition, the results exhibited that schools focus and give much importance in both Science and Math. This showed how significant two subjects are in our lives.
