Abstract
The following study looks at the sustainability of external debt policies of the Philippines. Annual data from 1971-2000 was used. This paper is an application to Philippine data the study conducted by Jayme (2001) for Brazil's debt situation.
External debt in the Philippines was juxtaposed with trade data to test for sustainability. In a nutshell, sustainability means that growth of outflows, which includes debt payment and imports, should be less that the growth of inflows.
