| dc.description.abstract | Upon the passing of the Generics Act of 1988 into law last September 13, 1988, major changes in the pharmaceutical industry were expected to occur. This paper seeks to evaluate the effects of the Act on the following aspects: the prices of medicines, the performance of multinational and local drug firms and the degree of acceptance of the Act by the consumers, pharmacists and drug manufacturing companies doctors, A look at the current industry situation would reveal that certain benefits have been derived from the implementation of the policy. The most manifested development is the existence of a cheaper alternative to branded medicines.
