This paper aims to look at the behavior of the rural banks in the Cavite province in terms of their function and efficiency. Across banking institutions, the lack of sound banking practices is a common problem especially with rural banks. This usually leads to inefficiencies and detachment from the banks' main objectives. In Cavite, the existence of many rural banks is a possible indication of satisfactory performance. The performance of these rural banks was examined by utilizing aggregate data for 1993 through 2002. The purpose is to analyze the progress made by these rural banks in mobilizing deposits and providing credit in the province.
