This paper sought to examine the impacts of KALAHl-CIDSS project on social capital indicators thereby bringing about empowerment. Literatures suggest that a community driven approach to poverty alleviation projects increase social capital. Using the KALAID-CIDSS data, improvements in 14 social capital indicators were studied. Each indicator was estimated using the difference-in-differences method to control for various time effects and~ these were run on the presence of a KALAHl-CIDSS project, educational attainment, and on assets. Assets were treated in two manners which gave similar results but aggregating assets in groups such as electrical, home, and transportation were more logical to interpret. Results from the estimation suggest that KALAHl-CIDSS projects and education were not entirely significant on most social capital indicators whereas the number of assets proved to be more significant. An interesting finding is that KALAID-CIDSS beneficiaries tend to contribute and be more trusting in money matters with fellow community members and yet results showed a decrease in overall community participation both in formal and in informal ways. For the full impact of KALAHI-CIDSS projects to manifest, a longer time frame is suggested and would most likely produce positive results since projects of such nature are intended for long term use.
