This study aims to obtain the factors affecting the academic performance of private schools in Metro Manila or the National Capital Region (NCR) - most especially the effect of an additional year in the primary level of education (grade 7) on the academic performance of students. The estimation methods used are feasible generalized least squares (FGLS} and multiple regression model (MRM). This study shows that lengthening the number of years in the primary level has a significant and positive effect on student achievement. Other significant factors include student-teacher ratio, student-classroom ratio and classes or the number of sections in the school. However, these factors have different effects on different school types. It has also been found that single-sex schools have higher scores and better academic performance than coeducational schools -which demonstrates that the environment in same-sex schools is more conducive to teaming than the environment of coeducational schools.
