Abstract
The study aims to test the relationship between the prevailing compensation basket and the factors that affect labor demand and supply in the Philippine manufacturing, mining and quarrying and private service sectors. The index of compensation and the average real wage, number of employed persons and gross value added to GDP of the selected non-agricultural sectors are the variables used in regression.
Also the compensation index and the employment index will be examined to determine the inverse association of the computed compensation employment ratios of the three industries.
The study also tests whether the value wages has appreciated so as to sufficiently compensate each worker's necessities. Wages will be quoted in real terms and will be compared to the consumer price index.
Finally, the increase or decrease in importance of several professions dominantly employed under the three sectors will also be taken into account to determine the demand trend of highly skilled workers.
The data range used in the study covers years from 1981-2006.
