This paper attempts to look into the effects of international remittances on the consumption patterns of rural households. The results indicate that remittances have made a statistically significant impact on the budget allocation of various commodity groups such as food, bank deposits, insurance and communication. Taking into account the recent global economic crisis, this study tries to examine its repercussions on the migrant households. Moreover, this study presents recommendations on how the government can assist the overseas workers and their families left behind.
