Item Restricted A cost-benefit analysis of street vending(1989-02) Lansangan, Jonathan Earl G.; Pe, Hans Christopher W.; Ching, PanfilaItem Restricted A study on export's contribution to economic growth in the Philippines(1994-03) Baltazar, Ericson C.; Ching, PanfilaItem Restricted Effects of asset size and dividend plowback on growth of earnings of Philippine commercial banks(1994-03) Bastasa, Michellee C.; Sy, Raenell G.; Ching, PanfilaThis paper attempts to study the relationship of asset size and dividend payout ratio with the growth of earnings in the Philippine banking system to determine the efficiency in utilizing the capital. This is patterned after the study conducted by I.M.D. Little in the United States where he probed the relationship between a company's dividend policy and its future earnings using the Least Squares Method.Item Restricted Pasig river rehabilitation project: a cost benefit analysis using public health, real property and river transportation gains(1993-10) Kraft, Norman S.; Santos, Alberto D.; Ching, PanfilaThis study was undertaken to determine the viability of the Pasig River Rehabilitation Program (PRRP) through Cost-Benefit Analysis. Costs were taken from the allocated budget for the whole duration of the project plus Maintenance expenses for the Metro Ferry to operate at full capacity. Benefits on the other hand were determined from 3 aspects, namely: a) Public Health - savings gained from the decrease in mortality and morbidity related to water-borne diseases, b) Real Property- increased market value of lands along the river, and therefore revenues from taxes for the respective local governments, and c) Transportation increased revenues for Magsaysay Lines due to a larger fleet and added load factor. The authors used NPV or Net Present Value in tackling the problem of determining the difference between the costs and the benefits. The social discount rate used was taken from NED A. Findings stipulate that the aggregate benefits greatly outweigh the costs; therefore, the authors conclude that indeed the Pasig River Rehabilitation Program is viable.Item Restricted Profile of Filipino contract workers and problems along their decision to work abroad(1989-01) Cruz, Esmeralda; Ching, PanfilaItem Restricted Public provision and demand for health services: a case study of Bicol(1986-05) Ching, Panfila; Medalla, Felipe M.Item Restricted Socio-economic determinants of the tuberculosis morbidity rate and an evaluation of the national tuberculosis control program of the Philippines (NTP) (1975-1991)(1995-04) Iglesias, Mercedes Victoria R.; Ching, PanfilaThe thesis sought to prove the hypothesis that the following socio-economic factors affect the morbidity rate of tuberculosis: poverty, the health status of the population, and population congestion. The thesis also evaluated the National Tuberculosis Control Program (NTP) of the DOH from 1975 to 1991 in terms of the policy changes made in that time period. The study used regional data for the years 1975, 1985 and 1991. The "pooled" regression technique was applied in the regression analysis, and dummy variables were used to evaluate the NTP. Real annual average family income was used to represent the poverty variable, infant mortality rates were used to measure health status, and population density and urbanization rates were both used to measure population congestion. The study found that the four proxy variables significantly explained the morbidity rates of TB, although the urbanization coefficient behaved contrary to expectations. The mean morbidity rate levels in 1985 were found to be not significantly different from those in 1985, and the morbidity rates were lowest in 1991. The study concluded that tuberculosis incidence is affected by poverty, the health conditions of the population, population congestion, and also access to health care, as measured by the respective proxy variables. The study also concluded that the decreased TB incidence levels in 1991 were a result of the policy and strategy changes made in 1986 in line with tqe Strengthened NTP.Item Restricted The armed forces of the Philippines commissary and exchange service: a study on tax exemption(1989-01) Gonzales, Ferdinand H.; Ching, PanfilaItem Restricted The effect of the import liberalization of fertilizers on rural revenue of rice farmers in Central Luzon and Southern Tagalog(1993-10) Castro, Jerome Fernado T.; Coquia, Marian L.; Ching, PanfilaThis study examined the effects of the 1986 import liberalization of fertilizer grades vital to rice production on farm revenues in Philippine rice bowls, Central Luzon and Southern Tagalog, first by determining its price effects, then through evaluating the price effects on rice area and yield. The hypothesis that a downward movement in fertilizer price shall significantly effect increased yield was confirmed valid, leading to the implication that the farm revenues of rice producers shall increase. However, despite the confirmed positive effect of the import that it liberalization on rural rice revenues, it was unable to tangibly cause the expected was observed increase in output. As a result, the import liberalization policy, in order to be effective, should be constructed in such a manner that it corresponds with policies affecting irrigation infrastructure and the consumption of high yielding varieties. The effects of these other technological innovations on hectare allocation and yield were also described by the model, and contributed to the comprehensive scenario of farm decision- making.
