Abstract
Although the Philippines is at progress with the current decreasing trend of under-five child mortality, achieving the Millennium Development Goal
by Goal by 2015 calls for more research on immediate environmental factors that can improve the rate of child mortality This the nation. This paper studies the effects of the factors within the child's immediate environment namely, location, source of drinking water, and smoking, Philippines. The
study mortality in the Philippines. The study also includes factors such as mother's education, mother's Using at first birth and wealth index. Using logistic regression, the researchers estimated the likelihood of under-five child mortality with the incidences on each determinant. The study's results presented a Findings relationship between the immediate environment and under-5 child mortality. Findings also show that the mother's age at first birth is a strong determinant of under-five child mortality.
