Abstract

This undergraduate thesis will determine the effects which fluctuations in the exchange rate or more specifically, the appreciation of the peso will have on the level of exports in the Philippines garment industry. Using the ordinary least squares method, with X (the level of exports) as our dependent variable and the real effective exchange rate (REER.) and the real gross domestic products of the Philippines, Japan, Germany and United States as our independent variables, results have shown that indeed the REER, as well as the GDPs of the Philippines and the United States are very significant factors in determining the level of ourgarment exports. On the other hand, the GDPs of Japan and Germany are factors that are insignificant in terms of determining the amount of our garment exports.
