    Microeconomic determinants of crime
(2016-12) Losa, Dianne Faye ; Makalintal, Mariel
This study aims to investigate the correlation of committing a property crime and more severe crimes with respect to individual characteristics, social characteristics of the district and the barangay, and quality of police and judiciary enforcement. More specifically, it explores the effect of the following variables: age, sex, educational attainment, employment status, as well as district and barangay characteristics (population, crime rate and solution rate, business and real property tax collections). The data focuses on offenders from Quezon City from December 2015 to September 2016 obtained from the Quezon City Police District, the Philippine Statistics Authority and the Quezon City Hall (Barangay Operations Center and Financial Management Unit). The Logit Model, a binary regressand model, along with Probit and Linear Probability Models were adopted. The study hopes to contribute towards a better understanding of how the social and economic background of the individual affects the perceived costs and benefits of the crime, violent or property, to be committed by the individual that may aid in the assessment of the goals and methods of the Philippine government in its pursuit of crime reduction.

Impact of proximity to light rail (LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT) stations on property prices in Quezon City
    (2018-05-04) Ballar, Kier Jesse D. ; Geslani, David P.
The “Build Build Build” program of the current administration has led to questions about the effects of mass transit infrastructure on surrounding properties and whether they present a boon or bane for property owners. We explore the link between property prices and distance to light rail stations using a hedonic model of property pricing. Using data gathered from the Quezon City Assessment Records Office, the 2016 Survey of Business and Industry, and the 2015 Census of the Population, we estimate the effect of distance to light rail stations on the market price of properties. We found that being within a one-kilometer proximity to light rail stations brought with it discounts depending on the rail system and property classification in question. We believe that the results of this research may be of aid in the planning and development of urban spaces in and around light rail stations in Metro Manila.

The effectiveness of plastics regulation ordinances in shifting behavior of firms and consumers
(2013-10) Licup, Christine Joy M.; Rañoa, Maria Lorraine Angelica J.; Alonzo, Ruperto P.
This research paper aimed to evaluate the performance of plastics ban ordinances based on their effectiveness to shift consumer behaviors away from plastics consumption. It would be limited to two cities, namely, Quezon City and Makati City. The significance of this research would be to provide better understanding of the different factors that affect the demand for plastics; which could then be used by local governments to improve their implementation of plastics ban.
